A Dime for your Thoughts

I was at a ballpark field in Chanute, Kansas. I was young and I think we were there to watch one of my siblings play ball.

I used to play softball myself. I loved playing ball. Ultimately, it just stopped being one of the things I did. Especially since I picked up golf at the age of twelve.

Anyway, I am at a ball field. I was young. I remember by biological father talking to a friend or some man that he knew. The man handed me something that I have kept to this day. No idea why I have kept it this long, but I imagine I did because it was cool.

I have held onto a dime that has a hole drilled through it, with a keychain ring through it. He called it a “dime ring.” Little version of me thought that this ring was so cool. So, today as an adult, I continue holding onto it in my little stash of ‘treasures,’ because at one time, I thought that this ring was pretty special.

Often times, as we grow older, we lose sight of what we once viewed as special. Yes, we evolve as we grow older and what we found special may not be the same as when we were younger….

When we are younger, we have such a random imagination. An imagination that can turn a swing set into a fire breathing dragon. A pillow fort into a castle hanging off of a cliff.

Along with remembering our imagination, what were the things in our younger versions’ lives that just meant the absolute world? What keeps the connection to our younger selves’ imagination?

Rocks. I am a grown woman in her late twenties, that will absolutely squat down and ignore what is going on around me and examine rocks.

It takes me back to times when I was helping lead the playground in rock hunts. The time I took a rock on a 2nd grade field trip (still have this rock) because it was laying on a rock that had a tree growing out of it. I literally found this rock cool for that reason alone.

This blog post has one simple reminder… Remember the smallest, simplest of things that brought you joy. If you are still trying to find what brings you joy on your journey- I wish you the best of luck.

Take care of yourself.
