Temporary Oasis

Temporary oasis. This idea popped into my head while listening to a random love song on YouTube.

I often find myself thinking about my life. Where I’ve been, where I’m at, and where I’m going. Thoughts lead to examine the places, people, and things that serve as a temporary oasis.

Remember when you were a kid? You built the most amazing blanket fort out of the dining room chairs. You pulled in your favorite items. Your favorite stuffed animal, snack, or random things you found around the house to make your space feel-safe?

Temporary oases are intended to do just that- make us feel engulfed in a safe space where nothing can harm us. They serve as a warm hug that comforts us from the evils of the world.

I smile at the temporary oases I have had in my life. Like I mentioned, they can be people, things, or places.

They provided me security. They provided me a sense of belonging or words of encouragement.

When we hit the wall of when goodbye must slide off our lips, casted in our looks, shown with our actions- it is a bittersweet moment. No matter how hard we held onto it- we must part ways with it to continue to grow and learn to be stronger, more aware human beings.

Temporary oases are typically not permanent, hence the name. That does not mean that once we leave one space- we cannot enter another.

Closing the door to one oasis and entering another- we hope that this time, it’ll be different. We hope that we can stay in this one. We hope that the universe sees that we are worthy to enjoy such pleasures this one brings.

Can temporary oases become permanent? That is a question I leave to you as the reader.

What makes a person, place, thing worthy of becoming a permanent fixture in your life? Your life is precious. Your time is precious.

Be careful when allowing temporary people, places, things to hang around. Sometimes goodbyes hurt. But sometimes, they appear when we need them. They disappear when they know we are strong enough to move on without them serving as our crutch.
